Core

It’s about time we talk about that pesky core work. You know, the work that squats, deadlifts, and presses miss. What? They work the core? Without a bosu ball? Yup. Nuff said.

Actually, I’m thinking about core beliefs. Not the “In your face, right wing extremist teabaggers!” beliefs. I’m talking about being real with yourself and deciding what is most important to you and how you fuel that to make America a better place.

Bigg and I got into a discussion last night about a few of our training friends who can’t seem to STFU about the election results. Even the one who said something along the lines of, “No matter what people, let’s respect each other” and then proceeded to NOT STFU the rest of the night. I will never get into a political discussion with him. Why? Because although he (and likeminded folks) has never gone on a limb and shared his core beliefs, he calls names, spouts media tag lines, and professes to be superior due to the main fact that he’s not a Republican.

On the other hand, we talked about another friend who I would LOVE to get into a political discussion with even though I’m quite aware that our views are very different. She is concise in her ideas and ideals, she is rational and reasonable, and she stands up firmly and with class to her beliefs. I respect that, I admire that. She’s the shit.

I watched the movie Hating Breitbart the other day. While I disagree with some aspects of his work, I highly admire the way he stood up for his beliefs that the mainstream media shirks away from their responsibility as objective reporters. He made friends, and he made enemies but he was always clear in where he stood. He hated injustice (as do I) and the work of he and his partners became an instant target of what I consider to be the pop journalists of today.

For the most part, I stay away from such speak. While some people feel the need to entertain us all with their massive load of political sewage they deem important, I’ll stay quiet. It is not necessary for me to be right. It’s necessary to be confident in my convictions and live them with class and kindess. Some days I succeed in that, other days I fail.

But be real. Don’t shirk from your core beliefs or let them be hid in todays bullshit jargon. Just be real.

Those who don’t read the newspapers are better off than those who do insofar as those who know nothing are better off than those whose heads are filled with half-truths and lies.

P.S. My 19 year old daughter cast her first presidential vote yesterday. Her twin has been on the road since June and wasn’t able to figure out how to vote in spite of it. He’ll get it next time. I’m a very proud ma.

Vote

I have a hard time believing the above isn’t photo shopped. If it is, haha. If it isn’t, this chick is badass.  And probably dead.

Anyways.

The good news? You get to vote today.

The better news? The political ads end tomorrow.

Yeehaw.

Should things go wrong at any time, the people will set them to rights by the peaceable exercise of their elective rights.

Monday Bacon: Guy Fawkes Night

It’s 5 November. Time to get out the Guy Fawkes masks and remember the foiled Gunpowder Plot. The day itself was originally a celebration for King James I survival of the attempt on his life. After a couple of hundred years, writers began depicting Fawkes in a more acceptable light, romanticizing the fact that he almost blew up the House of Lords and assassinate the King.

Fawkes’ image is used in the well known movie, “V for Vendetta”, a favorite around our home. He is used often to represent how government can become so big and controlling that the only way to start over is to blow it all up.

Fawkes is one of Oz’s favorite so of course his Halloween costume was such a couple of years ago…

So get out your firewood; your fireworks; and your masks. Remember to vote tomorrow, either way, doesn’t matter. Just vote.

Remember, remember the Fifth of November,

The Gunpowder Treason and Plot,

I know of no reason

Why the Gunpowder Treason

Should ever be forgot.

Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes,

t’was his intent

To blow up the King and Parli’ment.

Three-score barrels of powder below

To prove old England’s overthrow;

By God’s providence he was catch’d

With a dark lantern and burning match.

Holla boys, Holla boys,

let the bells ring.

Holloa boys, holloa boys,

God save the King!

And what should we do with him? Burn him!

I dare do all that may become a man; Who dares do more is none.

Friday Jams

It’s been quite a week. The smooth sounds of Fleetwood Mac are right for today.

Enjoy the weekend.

One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.
