The Oz man and I are heading down to Texas tomorrow to meet up with Bigg and head to Wichita Falls for the second annual Falls Fest Highlander games. Last year was a huge blast and as previously mentioned, the people who inhabit these heavy events games are some of the best in terms of sportsmanship and fun.

We are scheduled pretty tight and have lots to do in a couple of days so we’ve come up with a plan on how to take it all in.
Bigg is already on his way to Texas for work where he’ll be meeting us late Thursday night with a supply of some of the best BBQ around. Beef ribs from Black’s and brisket from Kruez Market for dinner.

Brisket burrito’s from Rudy’s will be Friday morning before we head north to WF. We’ll hit Gene’s Tasty Burger in the Falls at lunch for a double/double.

Afterwards, there’s lots to do. Hugs to give and get. Prizes to drop off, a kid to dump at his besties house, a Cheese curds delivery for Dr. Ghanbarri, the one client I had at WFAC where we’d actually snack and drink coffee during his sessions. We may sneak in some Fuzzy’s before we go out to the games field to practice some throws but they’ll have a food cart on site so we can hit those Saturday too.
Friday night is schnitzel at Opa’s with the Pilots. After a day of competition, we’ll wing it for dinner Saturday although P2 sounds solid. Last year I think I had Shiner Bock for dinner so something in solid form would ensure I’m awake past 8 pm this time.
We’ll head back to Dallas to fly out on Sunday morning to hook up with the hockey kid who now is playing for the Texas Tornado in Frisco. It will be great to see him again. It would be better if it were at In’N’Out Burger.

So you see, a lot of planning had to go into play here to hit it all. Reading back, this seems like a lot of food. Oh well,
a girl’s gotta eat!

At tosabarbell, I build relationships cultivated in a strength and learning environment. There is no 12 week magic pill program to strength but rather a lifetime commitment to be the very best and most useful human you can be.
tosabarbell is a private, home grown gym with three lifting platforms; squat rack; prowlers; throwing implements; bars, bumpers and everything else needed for an effective strength and conditioning program. Straightforward barbell programming including the Olympic lifts; sound (read: not fancy bullshit) diet advance for weight gain or loss; and strong coaching will ensure you will meet your goals such as becoming stronger, more explosive, and better conditioned.
I have been coaching teams and athletes for over 30 years. I grew up participating in various sports at various levels but was always drawn to those that require strength training. I have multiple local, national, and world records in the sports of Weightlifting and Highland Games Heavy Events as well as a combined total of 5 World Championships. My 5 years of training and coaching under Mark Rippetoe provided a wide range of influence from some of the top strength & conditioning and throwing coaches in the country. I will strongly encourage tosabarbell athletes to compete (and prepare you to do so.) However, tosabarbell is also for those who wish to be stronger and go through life feeling better.

He played a year of D1 football with Iowa before concentrating on his Chemical Engineering degree in Iowa City. He is a native of Wauwatosa and still remains a staunch supporter of Tosa East.
This blog will be a mixture of strength notes, coaching and nutrition tips, personal shit; bacon delicacies, and a whole lot of fun.
