Epic Games List

I am not a fan of using the word, “Epic.” It tends to be overworked these days and unless you’re talking about BACON, who cares. But today I’ll use the word Epic. I asked my Highland Games veteran friend, Rick, what I should have packed in my games bag and he came back with one of the Best. Lists. Ever.

In order to be fully prepared to throw the above stuff around for a day, it would be good to have on hand…

A bag with wheels; sun block; a towel I can trash; a hand towel to dip in ice water to cool off on hot days; tacky; WD-40 and hand cleaner; new skin; umbrella for rain or shine; cleats (given with his favorite kind); hammer boots; throwing glove; tape; super glue; Kilt; extra shirts and socks; polar fleece; sweatshirt; warm up clothes; bottle opener for after games celebration (I already have that and it’s already been put to use;); lighter to light cigar (Bigg liked that one);  Scotch or beer; Gatorade; Sheaf fork; chair (I like to bring one with a hard back, not the fold up camping types); food; roll of toilet paper (just in case.)

I thought about it and added a few items. A Red Cup (since I got stuck on a boat last summer while drinking for about six hours I’ve come to appreciate the multiple uses for red cups); a nail file; sun glasses; the camera; chalk; my games goal book and the i-pod for warm ups to calm my nerves. I really feel like duct tape should be on the list but I’m trying to exercise restraint.

OH! Some tums, cuz if this offered up, I’m in…

I’m very lucky to have someone who’s been at this for a while whose willing to take time out of his day to help me and I’m very appreciate for the help. So I need to go shopping and get my bag packed!

The rules of drinking games are taken far more seriously than the rules of war.

Monday Bacon: Uh Oh

We had a wonderful holiday weekend with both my crew and Bigg’s. Having all three of my keiki in one place makes for a very happy Ma. I tried to watch my food without being an attention whoring PIA. I succeeded…or at least I thought I did. On Saturday evening, as I was lugging my overextended somali baby tummy around, I was trying to figure out why I’m so freaking full. While eating lunch at 4pm and dinner at 9pm was a contributor, the real culprit for feeling like uck all weekend was this…

It started with chocolate eggs last week…dipped in a 5# tub of creamy peanut butter. Oh so good! It continued on when the Easter Bunny started forming baskets and ended last night with a piece of lamb cake. OK!!!! A piece and a half.

Now I’m stuck with a sugar hangover and quite honestly, I’ll take a Finnish Vodka and Sprite hangover any day to the sugar counterpart. A headache for a day is nothing compared to the bloated, unmotivated, and blobby feel I’ll have for the next couple of days. Poor me.

So back to the drawing board I go. Sugar cleanse, amp the protein and salads, and train harder than last week. And water. Lots and lots of water. I’ll be feeling better by Wednesday, I hope. And I’m just so very happy that there’s not another sugar holiday for at least…three days. The Oz man turns 13 on Wednesday, cake of some sort will be involved. Sigh….

If you cannot find peace within yourself, you will never find it anywhere else.

Friday Jams

About two weeks before Easter, my mom would get out the records from Jesus Christ Superstar. It would play off and on until I became old enough to be trusted not to scratch the double album and then it was non-stop. I loved the jazzy, hippy, rock and roll. Looking back, I have to give my folks props for being so cool.

Having a piano teacher for a Ma meant a love for music was instilled from the get go. I still love Jesus Christ Superstar. I suppose it was my first exposure to musicals and although I never need to see another production of Oklahoma, I enjoy them to this day.

For me, music is still the connector for a spiritual life. I can get swept up gy a good Organ solo or a Michael W. Smith tune and forget about the hypocrisy that goes with the territory.

Enjoy the weekend.

Our Lord has written the promise of the resurrection, not in books alone, but in every leaf in springtime.

Aim For The Ice

A day over 30 degrees in Wisconsin in springtime means it’s time to go throwing. At a balmy 44 degrees, it was nearly shorts weather.

We got out to the park, saw all the mud when the Oz man (my shagger) says ‘You better aim for the ice Ma.’ Good advice. Especially for him because every time I’d hit the mud, he’d get splattered with it. It was a fun day and I hit some very steady throws. One LWFD went 48′ and change. A big PR but I’ll be more excited when I hit it consistently AND in competition.

For now, I’m thankful that my almost 13 year old thinks this is fun and keeps coming with me. And I’ll aim for the ice as long as possible.

None of us are nuclear experts, but we know that if there is a melt-down and breach of containment, that’s clearly the most odious thing that could happen.
