Monday Bacon: Quickie

Bigg and I had a whirlwind visit to our meeting place, Wichita Falls Tx. We hit town around 11:30 p.m. Thursday and were back out by Saturday early evening. In that time, we…had breakfast with one of my pilots who is now an Instructor Pilot and thoughtful enough to send a very bad ass patch for the Oz man; from there I had to recover from the sugar crash of the syrup from my pancake which hit me much harder than I’d imagined due to my clean eating of late (MyBad!); had awesome visits with friends and ate at one of my favorite WF joints, Fuzzy’s Taco!

We fit in a hockey game with the Godmother of hockey and her guy, had some amazing visits with a dear, dear friend of mine who is married to a very cool dude and we always have a great time when we’re together as couples; we ate good, relaxed, and had a blast.

We just happened to hit town during the Rider H.S. Powerlifting meet so we took some of that in too. My lifter, Katy, kicked arse even though she is nursing a knee injury from Volleyball season.

She squatted a very solid 265# which is great for her first meet. I just couldn’t be more proud of her as a lifter, a senior in high school, and a very awesome chik. It was a great bonus to see her lift and spend a few moments with her. We also got to see Colton lift. Colton has been a WFAC regular for years and has developed into a very kick ass lifter. He takes strength training very seriously and is one of the hardest, most consistent workers in the gym I’ve ever seen. Here he is squatting 490#…

He hits his depth, and then some, even though he had to dehydrate and lose three pounds before weigh in. It was a great lift and lots of fun to watch.

All in all, it was a great weekend and I’m so thankful to spend it with my Bigg guy in between some work trips of his. It hit all of the high points of Wichita Falls and helped me to put away some of the stress I guess I held on to without realizing it of my time there.

But now it’s Monday which means it’s back to work! First…some bacon!

Early Jams

I’ve finally gotten around to watching The Hobbit. I enjoyed it but it was very stressful. I like those dwarfs and didn’t want anything bad to happen to them.

Their singing was my favorite part.

Enjoy the weekend. We’re off to Texas to see how many people we can visit in a 36 hour span. It’ll be a blast.

On Schedule

It still surprises me how fast time can fly by. It seems like weeks ago since Bigg’s bicep tendon repair and the beginning of rehab and it’s already been a little over three months. I’ve been very proud of him and his hard work on this rehab, he’s working a little harder but taking far better care of himself overall than his first repair. He’s stronger than ever and on track to begin event training in preparation for Lapland and the Champions League Iceman Lapland event in March.

The Iceman is one of Bigg’s favorite competitions. Really, how could it not be? There’s snow; it’s freezing out; the dude is right at home!  He and Oz even wore their Iceman Lapland snuggies to the New Year’s Day Polar Plunge!

He’s on the road for most of January so training can be a bit tricky. Therefore the 380 strict press he hit last night is cause for celebration around here. Cuz he’s still rehabbing…right on schedule.

Bully for Her!

She’s baaaaaack! After two episodes of this season’s Biggest Loser, Jillian has bullied one of her team members off the show; has made two more cry; and lost the one man she had on her team due to the White team losing the least amount of weight…AGAIN.

This woman makes great TV, for sure. Watching her get into their faces and scream; cuss; and point her finger in their faces is something to behold. I mean really, we’ve all wanted to behave like an undisciplined idiot at one time or another. The difference of course is that most of us haven’t. Cuz that’d be wrong. See?

Look up the word BULLYING. There she is! It surprises me that Wiki doesn’t have a picture of her there…yet. Heeheh. The behavior can be habitual and involve an imbalance of social or physical power.  Check! …can include verbal harassment or threat, physical assault or coercion and may be directed repeatedly towards particular victims. Check!

As a self proclaimed former fatty, Jillian finds it acceptable to bully the contestants to her heart’s content. And she gets away with it. Awesome.

A dear friend commented on one of my fb jillian rants that “some people need to be jacked up like that.” Okay Tina (love you:), here’s where your perception of “jacked up” and a responsible strength coach/trainer’s perception differ…There is “stern” coaching. I’m a stern coach. Very. There are many tricks we use to get our lifters/clients moving in a sometimes fun, but all business atmosphere. Absolutely. But we don’t bully. We don’t scream in their faces to “MOVE YOUR ASS OR GET OUT!!!!!” We don’t pour buckets of water, sponge and all, over their heads while they are being checked by a medical professional as they sit on the pavement. It was demoralizing and demeaning and that my friends is bullying.

But she’s good TV. And by all the gym gods in the universe, this HAS to be the year someone hauls off and shuts her up. Because sometimes the only way a bully will stop is to make THEM the target. And I wouldn’t miss that for the world!
