Friday Jams

Oz and I went to see Skyfall the other night at our newly re-opened Rosebud theater in Tosa. They have comfy chairs and couches, snacks, and a full bar. I picked up a somewhat watered down Margarita so I’ll stick to a glass of a Lakefront brew next time but it was still fun having a drink and watching a movie.

It’s been a while since I’ve seen a James Bond movie and this was the first for me with Daniel Craig. I liked it. A lot. I’ve read some reviews on how disappointing it was for others but jhmfcoas; can’t we just go to a movie and be entertained without picking it apart? It’s James Bond…it’s not supposed to be deep, just sexy and action packed. Check and check.

Recognizing Adele right away in the opening credits was a pleasant surprise. This is a good song for her. Soulful, a little dark, and very sexy. Fun.

Enjoy the weekend.

I admit I’m being paid well, but it’s no more than I deserve. After all, I’ve been screwed more times than a hooker.

Mmmmmmmmm…

I’ve switched up my programming and tweaked my diet. Lots of salads, smaller meals, and not nearly enough bacon chili cheese dogs so when I see something like the above, it makes me hungry. Poor me.

Friday’s are almost always McBob’s day so I’ll fill up tomorrow…only one more day. Yeah me!

Red meat is not bad for you.  Now blue-green meat, that’s bad for you!

Firsts

We had a few firsts last weekend at tosabarbell. With the help of Swede and Chris (since Bigg is a wing down and unable to work the heavy loads for a bit) we got the flooring and the platforms in. Look how happy Swede looks…

The day was slated for warm but rainy so I was very, very happy to see the sun. This would not have been as much fun in the rain. Things ran as smooth as humanly possible and I’m very thankful for that. The platforms were heavy but between the three of us (turned out 1-me + 1-Chris= 1-Swede) we got’er done. We even walked away with a bonus platform for Swede to take for his home set up.

I like how big the above picture makes the gym look. Heh. It’s a bit deceiving…we’ll be cozy in there. We were having so much fun, the guys decided to assemble the squat rack…

….which begs the question, how many Strongman does it take to hold a portion of a squat rack? And now for the lists of firsts:

1. First Pro Strongman visitor at tosabarbell: Sam McMahon

B) First gym dog: Butkus (Sam’s very sweet Rottie)

III First meal in tosabarbell: OKG Char Siu chicken and Kalua pork. Scrumptious!

We finished up with beers while talking Strongman story and it was perfect.

Huge Mahalo to Chris and Swede for all of their help, we couldn’t have done this without you and to Sam for showing up at the perfect time (when the floor and platforms were in and beers were being served;) and genuinely for his input which saved us on a couple of different items.

We’re hoping it’s only the first of many times these guys will be hanging (and training) at tosabarbell. Next up? Ginormous equipment order…stay tuned!

Big Loser

It seemed yesterday was designated the “motivate me to get back to the gym” day on Tweeter. I saw a handful of motivation requests of some big name gym dudes and thought, Huh. Dude, if you already know you need to get to the gym, just go!? Why are you asking Arnold for some motivation before you do it?

There are many different reasons we decide to hit the gym and continuing a D1 level of speed/strength/fitness/whatever applies to a very low percentage of people. The rest of us need to decide for ourselves why we’re there. There are women all over the country very happy and content with hitting the elliptical every day and skipping out on strength training. Do I wish they’d pick up a dumbbell or barbell too? Of course, but that’s not up to me.  I’m just happy they’re not sitting on their couch WATCHING an aerobic video telling themselves they’ll start “next week.”

I miss The Biggest Loser. First off, the entertainment the “trainers” provide is Gold. Watching Jillian Michaels sit on fat people while screaming in their face? Pure entertainment. I’m still waiting for the day one of these people hauls off and cracks her a good right hook. That’d be good tv right there. Most of all; however; the show is a huge motivator for the overweight of the world to get moving. The quasi-celebrity the contestants leave the show with allows them to speak to other overweights and get THEM moving. It gives people a connection that a track star in a skimpy sport bra and tight shorts just “Doing It” fails to do.

For now, folks will have to find their motivation (hopefully) in the fact that they feel like crap and can barely move. Or wait until January. More good news? Jillian’s back!

There are more pleasant things to do than beat up people.
